Local Cabbage: a business that needs to exist

All living beings, by their very existence as living beings, have inherent needs for healthy growth and development, and the more successful we are in helping each being meet it's needs, the more successful we will be as individuals, as a species, as a planet, and as a universe. I want to create a business/organization that helps identify and clarify these needs while also creating a network where resources are allocated to those who need them the most, while compensating those who contribute needed resources to the world.

The perennial questions of modern society:

  • How can I take care of my own needs?
  • What can I do to make the world a better place at the same time?

Local Cabbage aims to be a powerful answer to both of these crucial questions, as well as being a powerful tool for helping people meet those needs in the simplest, most effective, and healthiest way possible.

Local Cabbage is a unique project that aims to harness the power of collaborative networking, open source information, and strong communities to create a more participatory and sustainable economic and social system, as espoused by Frances Moore Lappé with her Living Democracy idea. The Local Cabbage project will be flexible enough to accommodate and encourage: traditional bartering, resource sharing, community participation, neighborly generosity, and environmentally and socially sustainable independent business - locally and globally.

And I believe that Local Cabbage fits in perfectly with the idea of Slow Trade, which ODE recently covered in the September issue.

The structure of this project will be a network based on the most successful and useful elements of search engines, classified listings, time dollars programs, community organizations, employment agencies, and supportive networks of friends. Local Cabbage will be a network that benefits everyone, and works with individuals and organizations such as ODE to create a healthier planet and people by directing the world's resources of information, services, and products to where they are needed the most. The purpose of the Local Cabbage network is to help people understand their needs for health and happiness and help them find ways to meet their needs in the most efficient way possible, so that they can be active and passionate contributors to a peaceful and just world.

And if you agree that Local Cabbage needs to exist, then offer to lend your support to making it happen!
