What exactly is EM?
A short introductory on a revolutionary, magic potion.
There are two dynamic, opposing forces in nature: regeneration and degeneration. The first stimulates productivity and vitality, while the second leads to decay and decomposition. Both forces are driven by the smallest life forms we know: micro-organisms, organisms that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
In soil where regenerative micro-organisms dominate, plants and crops show remarkable growth. They are free of disease, infestations and vermin. Perpetual bumper crops are possible without external additives, such as farm chemicals and artificial fertiliser. The opposite is true for soil where degenerative micro-organisms dominate. The soil tends to produce diseased, weak plants and crops that are frequently ravaged by parasites. No real growth is possible without the help of chemicals and chemical fertiliser.
Long-term, intensive use of such additives will exhaust the soil, instead of making it truly productive. EM, short for 'effective micro-organisms', is a remedy that can induce soil to regenerate, even when conditions are poor, without using chemicals and chemical fertilizer. Lactic acid bacteria, photosynthetic bacteria, fungi and yeasts are a few of the regenerative micro-organisms belonging to the EM group. EM is a liquid concentrate that is produced in vats using cultures composed of over 80 types of micro-organisms.
When EM is present in the soil and the micro-organisms multiply, the water and air in the soil are purified. The micro-organisms discharge large quantities of nutrients, including vitamins, amino acids and organic acids. The anti-oxidant level also improves, which strengthens the immune system.
