Thanks, Laura, for your realistic assessment of the situation you are in from an environmental perspective.
Good to be reminded about reusing containers or whatever you have over and over, being creative in what you can do with them. I used to live with a woman who had been through a war. And of course, here in Japan many oldsters remember their wars years quite vividly. Those folks really know about using every last bit of whatever they have, about imaginative uses for things. Such a joy and wonder to learn from them.
One other comment, which I think you well know, I find that seeing beauty and ugliness is something we are trained to do. It amazes me how much ugliness people literally do not see. And if you don't see it, then how can you think of beautifying it? So,maybe part of environmental cleanup is getting people to see a need in the first place. Not an easy task!
